Reflections and Looking Forward

So 2019 was one for the record books.  All my readers know about my brain tumor diagnosis and subsequent brain surgery to remove said tumor.  I've been trying to be open and honest about all challenges I face and how I am facing them, however I did not post that in May of 2019 I was also disgnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  I immediately went on Metformin and changed my diet - almost keto and I was doing really well until surgery.  Post surgery I started eating like old Randi and have continued to through today.  I was being hopeful that the tumor removal might effect my a1c but alas it has not.  (There is some science behind this) So now I will start tracking my carbs again (myfitnesspal) and back to regular exercise. I learned a lot about myself in this last year and I really hope to continue my personal growth as a wife, mother, genealogist, library worker, volunteer and chodan.  By next year I should be getting ready to test for EeDan (2nd degree black belt) I want this more than

Facial weakness a thing of the past!

Recovery is still going amazingly!  To see the original video look at the July 27th blog video.

First self shower post staples!

First self shower post staples!
Excited to be on my way home from my post-op appts.  Staples are a thing of the past!  Balance wise I’m doing great, I have a few new exercises mainly looking left and right as I walk.  I do have some nystagmus but doing daily exercises should have it cleared in no time. I was really concerned about the staple removal process but it was nothing!  I had hubby take a video for those of you wondering.  At the worst it felt like pulling hair. We met a very nice couple in the waiting room that was there for a consult for her AN. She saw my staples and asked questions, I was more than happy to share my experiences for this scariest time of life.
Two weeks ago today I was in the middle of my first ever surgery (an 8+hour brain tumor removal) today’s small feat but joyful celebration was coming down the stairs without holding the rail!  It’s literally been years since I could do that!

Recovery Update

It's been a few days - each day getting stronger!  Yesterday I went to watch kiddo at this lifeguard training and today we ventured to the park.  Walking across the grounds wass no issue, in fact kiddo had to tell me to slow down.  I am amazed at how good I'm feeling. Steroids were done 2 days ago, I did take an Oxycodone to help sleep but now and I'm just taking Advil for minor discomfort (mainly for a crick in my neck) in the morning and to help sleep. I did a half mile walk yesterday around the neighborhood and will repeat again tonight.   My facial weakness is lessening by the day, I almost feel normal! It's Friday now and my post op is on Tuesday - can't wait to get the staples out!  God Bless my fellow #ANWarriors out there!
Tapering steroids now, 2 days left of them.  Trying to not take oxycodone if I don’t need it.  I last took oxy last night at bedtime, I did take Advil this morning.  All is progressing very well.  Dizziness is pretty much a thing of the past! I am still moving slowly and will be for a while but can’t wait to be back in the dojang.  To be able to try a spin kick is going to be amazeballs! Working on my rehab, and tomorrow I hope to start finishing my NSDAR New Horizons program.
